Report suggests PlayStation monitoring Nintendo’s OLED Switch strategy

Analysts have already had their eyes on the new OLED model of Nintendo Switch. Today we get some really interesting reactions from them.

Apparently, some analysts fear that the success of Nintendo Switch will set a precedent in the industry and the price of certain products will not end up coming down. Perhaps most notably, however, the report claims that Sony is keeping a close eye on Nintendo’s moves.

Here’s what they say:

  • According to Bloomberg, Nintendo will earn an additional $40 gross for each OLED model sold.
Nintendo Switch has been on the market for several years and hasn’t lowered its price.
  • Nintendo plans to maintain Nintendo Switch’s momentum with this new OLED model and its strategy is not to lower the price of the console but to offer a new model $50 more expensive.
  • The Japan Times shares that Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda believes that “if this move is successful, it could set a precedent for charging gamers more across the industry” and adds that “PlayStation is closely monitoring the market’s response to Nintendo’s strategy, according to a PlayStation official who wished to remain anonymous”.
