Things Pokémon Legends: Arceus should learn from Monster Hunter Stories 2

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will undoubtedly mark a before and after in terms of Pokémon games, presenting us for the first time with an open world to explore, similar to what they did with the successful The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Well, Monster Hunter Stories 2, which launched on July 9th, presents us with an aesthetic and dynamic that we could define as similar in some aspects to what we expect in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, although it also has other elements that the Pokémon game could take note of and implement to improve the experience.

One of the key things in Monster Hunter Stories 2 is the relationship between the protagonist and its Rathalos, which, as it improves, increases the power of the attacks it can perform; a very close relationship mechanic that hasn’t been exploited much in Pokémon games. Emphasising the bond between a Pokémon and its trainer would be an addition that fans would no doubt appreciate, something that could perhaps make more sense in the likes of Mega Evolution in the event that they do incorporate this mechanic.

Apart from this, we also propose the following:

  • Double, triple and more varied fights.
  • Confrontations against very powerful creatures
  • More structured, mature and interesting storytelling
  • Voiced dialogues
  • Animated scenes

The Pokémon Company has a golden opportunity with Pokémon Legends: Arceus to offer the community something innovative and to make it feel more than just like a traditional Pokémon game with an open world.
