Sonic Team says new Sonic game for 2022 may have been announced too soon

You probably remember that the new Sonic The Hedgehog game for 2022 was confirmed last May. Well, today we have some interesting statements from the people behind the game.

While the announcement was confirmed with a very brief teaser, now Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka has admitted that perhaps the announcement was a little premature. However, they say they wanted to show something for Sonic’s 30th anniversary to reassure fans.

These are the words that we have been able to hear translated by Nintendo Enthusiast:

We haven’t announced a new action game for the Sonic series since Sonic Forces, and that got fans worried. While it was a bit premature, I at least wanted to use the occasion of the 30th anniversary to announce that a new title was in development.

[As for the mysterious symbol at the end of the teaser], it’s something symbolic that appears in the game, but the meaning is still a secret. However, I will say that it’s not something you can discover by deduction. More details will be shared soon, so look forward to it.
