Sonic game developers hope 2022 game will lay the groundwork for future Sonic titles, more details

We continue to receive interesting news about Sonic’s next project for 2022. These were shared in a recent interview with Sonic Stadium by Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic Team.

In the interview, he confirmed that with this game they are looking for something “new and challenging” that will set the trend for several years to come, in the way that the Sonic Adventure games did.

“The new title in development is moving towards a 2022 release, so I can’t really call it an anniversary title,” says the creative. “However, Sonic Adventure laid the groundwork for 20 years of Sonic titles after its release, so in the same way I hope that this new title launching in 2022 will lay the groundwork for the following future Sonic titles – that’s the idea behind the challenge for the team.”

“Since this title is still in development, there’s nothing I can talk about, but I did want to say that the development team has been dedicating their time to making something new and challenging,” says Iizuka. “Through a lot of trial and error, the team is looking forward to bringing everyone a new Sonic game, and I hope your warm support will help us meet this challenge.”
