Shortly after today’s Sonic Central presentation, we have now received the full official recap and the full replay of the event, which featured numerous hedgehog-related announcements.
These have included collaborations in different games, Sonic Colors Ultimate and Rise of the Wisps, Sonic Origins, Sonic Prime and merchandise news and a new project for 2022. We leave you with the recap, followed by the replay:
Today, in honour of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th anniversary, SEGA hosted the first-ever “Sonic Central” live event, offered on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube and Twitch channels. During the celebratory event, SEGA revealed a host of upcoming entertainment experiences starring the hedgehog himself. The broadcast kicked off with the creators of the upcoming Netflix animated series, Sonic Prime. While no celebration would be complete without a little music, SEGA revealed that they will be celebrating Sonic’s 30th anniversary with a live orchestra event on June 23 featuring music from Sonic games over the past 30 years with a special preview during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. Kickoff Live! on June 10, with special appearances by Crush 40 and Tomoya Ohtani.
After the opening segment, SEGA jumped into the middle where it all began, with a series of supersonic announcements related to the games that brought the hedgehog to the next console, PC and mobile experiences this year:
Sonic Colors: Ultimate and Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps: SEGA revealed Sonic Colors: Ultimate, an adrenaline-fuelled remaster of the beloved 2010 platformer Sonic Colors, along with a colourful debut trailer. Sonic Colors: Ultimate will be released both digitally and physically on PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, with a digital-only release on PC via the Epic Game Store on September 7, 2021. Fans can pre-order Sonic Colors: Ultimate today to receive the exclusive Sonic Baby keychain and other bonus items. In addition, SEGA revealed a trailer for the two-part animated series, Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps, the first short-form animation with full dialogue and a voice cast that includes the return of legendary Sonic voice actor Roger Craig Smith.
Sonic Origins: SEGA is working on a new compilation series that includes Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, as well as Sonic CD. Fans looking for a nostalgic gaming experience can check out these classic hits for uninterrupted Sonic action and new content, with more information coming soon.

But there are more ways to celebrate! SEGA unveiled a line of commemorative products to celebrate the 30th anniversary that Sonic fans can appreciate for years to come.
Licensed products: SEGA will be collaborating with a strong roster of partners throughout the year to create new Sonic products, including exciting items such as a Giant Eggman robot game from JAKKS Pacific Inc, a full-colour hardcover Sonic encyclopedia from Dark Horse and more. As part of Sonic’s 30th celebration, IDW will release a special 80-page oversized comic book featuring three stories of colourful heroes and dastardly villains. Commemorative 30th anniversary gold and silver coins will also be available this year from APMEX.
