In the web we usually inform you about cases of Pokémon that suffered modifications in their development process.
Today we bring you one of the most curious, the one of the Pokémon Azumarill.
The beta design of this popular Pokémon looked quite different from how we knew it in the second generation of the franchise.
What is most striking is perhaps the change in color, since it originally looked yellow.
Apparently, the developers used the Baby Doduo color palette as an interim color for Azumarill.
Its appearance also changed significantly, as you can see in the following recreation:

Azumarill's earliest design was very different. However, gold might've never been intended as its final color, but was just using Baby Doduo's color palette as a placeholder.
