The Nintendo Direct at E3 2021 has generated all kinds of opinions, from those who think that Nintendo has left a lot to show to those who have valued very positively the new releases announced.
Well, among those new releases was the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with a new trailer and confirmation of its release year, 2022. So, here’s a list of everything we know so far about this promising title:
- In the image below you can see how Link is devoured by that characteristic substance of Ganon. It stands out in the image that we can see him dressed as he was in the original Breath of the Wild, which means that we will probably see this sequence at the beginning of the game. It appears to be a continuation of the scene from the first trailer.
- As Ganon falls into the abyss, a roar can be heard coming out with quite a lot of energy, so at that point it is likely that Ganon is not completely weakened. In the next image, we see the mummy standing up.
- We can also see Zelda rushing backwards, and it may be that finding her is the reason Link will embark on his journey in this sequel. This would put the idea of Zelda being playable out of reach.
- There is also a huge white light, as at the beginning of Breath of the Wild, symbolising Princess Zelda.
- When Link is seen falling from the sky, the way he is dressed and his overall appearance is also quite unkempt. We don’t yet know why he’s like this, but it’s probably something to do with Ganon. There is also speculation of time travel, which would indicate that the Link in the sky is actually the original hero from the first game.
- Later, when Link is seen gliding, a rather mysterious structure that we haven’t seen before in the series can be seen sticking out of the clouds. It looks like floating lands. In addition, Link is wearing a different paravela than normal and a shield with the Triforce seemingly visible.
- A new mechanised Sheikah creature appeared in this trailer, and it looks like it’s not exactly out to make friends. However, it could also be a quirky ally.
- Continuing with the monsters, we were able to see a rather original combination: a strong Moblin on a Petrarok. It’s sure to give us a lot of war. The more developed horns of the Bokoblins should not be overlooked either.

- Link is also seen with it, thanks to which he can make use of different powers, as seen in the last trailer, thus replacing the function of the Sheikah Stone. In this image it appears to reverse time.
- The power to paralyse different objects and enemies will be joined by the ability to pass through solid objects, such as rocks, although it remains to be seen how this can be exploited during our adventure.
- If you’ve played Breath of the Wild, you’ll remember the iconic ancient architecture and Shrines, structures that will be quite different in its sequel. Will they belong to another ancient civilisation? Don’t miss the detail of the pillar with an “egg” at the entrance, very similar to the “shoulders” of the stone robot Sheikah.
- To finish off the latest trailer nicely, Nintendo gave us a little teaser about its release date: 2022. This may mean that the development still has some way to go to be polished, but it’s always good news to finally get a rough indication of what to expect. Will it be released on March 3rd for the prequel’s anniversary? Maybe that’s too early?
