Nintendo confirms it has no further plans for the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda

As you well know, 2021 is the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. For this reason, you may be wondering if Nintendo has any other plans besides Skyward Sword HD, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Cataclysm DLC and Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda.

Well, as we heard from franchise producer Eiji Aonuma at yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, it doesn’t sound like there are any further plans. Here’s what he shared:

This year, the original Legend of Zelda game reaches its 35th anniversary, while we don’t have any campaigns or other Nintendo Switch games planned, we have been working on this Game & Watch console as a special element to help mark the occasion and reflect fondly on the early days of The Legend of Zelda.

As you know, there were rumours that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker would be coming to Nintendo Switch as well, though other sources like Jeff Grubb claimed that Skyward Sword HD was going to be the game Nintendo focused on until before July. Now Grubb has shared that Nintendo may be holding these games back in case Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is delayed so that it can release them in the summer/fall season of 2022.
