During Nintendo’s 80th annual general meeting of shareholders, an investor asked about Nintendo Directs, Nintendo’s way of announcing new titles amid the coronavirus outbreak, and whether Nintendo Directs are a suitable method to announce new games in this day and age.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that in the last few months, Nintendo announced new titles and DLC through The Pokemon Company’s Pokemon Presents, as well as Masahiro Sakurai’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate introduction livestream for Min Min.
On the topic of Nintendo Directs, Furukawa acknowledges that they have been a great method to convey announcements directly to customers. That said, as times change, Nintendo is looking for and considering new ways to announce new products, as the way people communicate continue to evolve and change.
